Final Environmental Impact Report (DEIR)

Document No. EIR-RP-002-09: 109th Street Pool and Bath House Replacement Project - Final EIR-RP-002-09 (SCH #2007111071) PDF

Council District: 15 Pacific Region

Project Address: 3141 East Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90023

Project Description: The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks is proposing to replace the existing aquatic facility at the 109th Street Recreation Center. The existing pool and bathhouse would be demolished, and a new swimming pool, bathhouse, and deck would be constructed in their place. A splash pad with spraying or shooting water would be constructed north of the swimming pool. All proposed facilities would be compliant with the American with Disability Act (ADA) standards for accessible design. The project will also include resurfacing the two basketball courts adjacent to the pool and landscaping improvements. A parking lot would be constructed in the northern portion of the recreation center, and a five-foot wide ADA-compliant path would connect the parking lot to the bathhouse and pool.

The 109th Street Pool and Bath House is part of the recreational facilities at the 109th Street Recreation Center located at 1464 East 109th Street, within the community of Watts in the City of Los Angeles. The pool and bath house has been determined to be eligible for listing on the California Register of Historic Resources based on its “association with building program of the Works Progress Administration and as representative of policies and social movements that affected the construction of recreational facilities in Los Angeles in the 1930s, including the Parks and Playgrounds Movement and early efforts in the direction of racial equity.
