Westwood Indoor pool Westwood pool is a City of Los Angeles year round aquatic facility located just south of the Federal Building on Sepulveda Blvd. in Westwood. The pool is twenty-five meters by twenty-five yards, with a single diving board in the deep end. The water temperature is kept between 81 and 83 degrees. We offer programs for all ages and abilities.
*** The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Act requires all public pools to be fitted with specially designed pool drains that are intended to prevent death or injury caused by entrapment or entanglement. The City has completed the process for the seasonal pools and now will finalize the year round pools. Programs Offered: SPECIAL OLYMPICS Special Olympics swim team is designed for athletes who want to train and compete in Special Olympic events. For persons with mental and/or mental-physical disabilities only. NOVICE TEAMS This program is intended for the recreational participant. It does not come with any commitment to the program depending on the chosen level of participation. It is a seasonal program, however we encourage year-round participation in order to experience the full breadth of aquatic competition. Team practices include water instruction and may include dry land warm-ups. There is an opportunity for all participants to compete against other teams with similar ability and age citywide. Participation awards are given seasonally to each individual. Program is designed to accommodate both male and female participants. Prerequisites: Participants must be 7-17 years of age and must be able to swim the width of the pool and back in deep water of that designated pool.
U.S. TEAMS (C.O.L.A.) Participate in the Southern California or Southern Pacific section of United States Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, and Water Polo. These teams also compete against swimmers of the same age and level and qualify for national tournaments. Prerequisite: Try-out with coach/manager, orientation and parent participation. For more information, please go to www.colasharks.com ADAPTIVE SWIMMING For persons with mental or physical disabilities, this program helps participants to learn and improve skills, maintain and increase physical fitness, achieve success and receive recognition, and experience self-actualization in a regular aquatics environment. SMALL CRAFT PROGRAM The city provides instruction in canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and other type of small craft activities. JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM The Junior Lifeguard Program is a class designed to teach children ages 10-17 years basic water safety, skin diving, CPR, First Aid, and small crafts skills. LIFEGUARD TRAINING This course is designed for individuals interested in becoming L. A. City lifeguards. Students are trained in Red Cross Safety courses, given swim conditioning and interview training in preparation for upcoming lifeguard tests. WATER EXERCISE
